Swedish Grace bookcase, 1930s – timeless modernism in black elegance
The bookcase shown has been sold, but a similar or identical one can be ordered.
Swedish Grace – also known as Swedish Modern – is the style in which strict functionalism meets a subtle decorative feel, and this bookcase from around 1935 captures exactly that spirit. With its clean lines, restrained proportions and elegant finish, it is an example of how timeless form and practical function become a style statement with soul.
Restored with the greatest care by Plan B Design, it is once again in mint condition, finished in a matt off-black that balances the classic and the contemporary – sophisticated, subdued and never intrusive.
A piece for everyday life and for rooms with character
With its low height and broad form, this bookcase gives a room a harmonious, grounded feel. It is also functional and easy to place, making it as ideal in the living room as in the hallway, bedroom or home office.
- Sturdy wooden construction, restored with respect for the original
- Matt off-black lacquer – for a soft, elegant expression
- Three generous shelves for books, still lifes or storage
- Works just as well as an open sideboard or low storage unit
Wherever it stands, the bookcase creates structure, order and visual balance – without taking over the room. Its beauty is understated, and that is precisely why its presence feels so natural.
Swedish Grace – a modern classic
The Swedish Grace style flourished in the interwar period, when Sweden designed furniture and architecture that were at once practical, beautiful and attentive to people. This bookcase is a prime example of that aesthetic – minimalist but not austere, clear and yet warm.
- Discreet details and well-balanced proportions
- Classic Swedish craftsmanship in the construction
- A piece that respects its origins and dresses for our time
Plan B Design’s interpretation in matt off-black strengthens the personality of the piece and lets the contents speak – books, art objects or memories.
